Dear BHS Families,

Thank you for visiting our Parents’ Group Website. Here you’ll find pertinent information you’ll need to know to take an active part in your teenage child’s experience at Burlingame High School. BHS is known for its close community spirit, tradition and academic excellence, and our parent community plays an important role in its success through our fundraising, volunteer and communications efforts.

Fundraising
Last year (2007-2008), our Parents’ Group raised over $300,000 from the following 4 revenue sources:
        • The Excellence Fund
        • Taste of the Town
        • E-Scrip (and now we are pleased to introduce our new Lucky Shares Program)
        • Membership

These monies funded critical classroom needs (computers, printers, textbooks, microscopes, industrial technology equipment, etc.) and enrichment programs (the Academic Center, PAWS, EXPLORE, Buddies Program, etc.) and more! Our staff and kids continue to be grateful for your donation dollars especially in light of these fiscally difficult times both at the local and state levels.

Volunteering
Many things happen at BHS because of the generous offering of your time and energy. The library and computer lab is able to be staffed; students are able to be registered; a Holiday Luncheon and Teacher Appreciation Breakfast are given to our teachers and staff; Taste of the Town is able to be organized and executed to just mention a few. We have over 20 Committees plus 12 Board positions for you to consider being a part of. You can make a big difference!  

Communication
Our Parents’ Group offers a strong communication system that helps you stay connected and informed on what’s happening in your child’s life. It consists of the following:
        • Highlights – our monthly online newsletter
        • NewsAlerts – brief, up-to-date e-mails with important school announcements
        • Buzz Book Directory – contact listing of students and parents
        • Parents’ Group Meetings – 2nd Wed. every month @7:00pm in the library

I welcome each of you to our Parents’ Group and I look forward to working with you this academic year. Most of all, I wish your child’s experience here at BHS be a productive and successful one.
